And Maine’s attack on President Bush wasn’t hating a perfect stranger, yeah right. I have a word for her but I will restrain myself for using it. She’s just another hypocrite who thinks that we the people are waiting to hear her latest pearl of wisdom.
WTF has she got to be “mad as hell” about? It’s not like living in America hasn’t been good for her.

Well, one thing she might be mad as hell about is the price of gas these days ($2.79 as of tonight), which has gone largely due to speculation that Iran’s oil exports will dry up if Bush pushes sanctions through the UN. Another thing might be the 16 troops who’ve died (9 from hostile fire) since the beginning of the month. Their deaths seem to be doing a lot of good, what with Iraq essentially in a civil war.
Anyways, thanks for the post. You’ve convinced me that the next CD I buy should be by the Dixie Chicks.
You know, I didn’t scorn the Chicks so much for what they said, as for WHERE and WHEN they said it. Simply courtesy: you don’t wash your family laundry in front of strangers.
It sure took a LOT of guts to say what they said in front of a foreign audience, instead of in front of their strongest (former) fanbase in the country they sh*t on.

I never said it was a bad video, I just disagree with what she’s saying, which, of course, I’m allowed to do, just as she’s able to say what she thinks. I was actually a huge fan before she made her comments. As some people have said, the worst thing about it was that she expressed negative opinions in another country.
Just my opinion, of couse.

Simple question, simple answer – YES, they have lost what is left of their collective minds. Perhaps these chicks should give some thought to the mothers who taught their sons to hate perfect strangers – like those in the twin towers.
I think they are the only cool think that has happened to country music since Johnny Cash. I saw the video yesterday and it made me cry. It was followed by a Toby Keith video in which he takes viagra and then gets punched in the face. Irony? Natalie- you are my hero.

I love our country and regard it as the best form of government and the greatest place to live on earth. I would fight and die for it.
Freedom of speech is one of those things, in my opinion, that has helped to keep our country strong and free and moving forward.
Thank god for the voices of dissent in our past who said….
… slavery is wrong.
… denying women the right to vote is wrong.
… “seperate but equal” is wrong
Please don’t misunderstand me. Being a “voice of dissent” doesn’t necessarily equate to being right. But, as John Stuart Mill wrote in “On Liberty,” those who would censor do us a great disfavor because they disallow the opportunity of truth to collide with error. And truth will be made more clear by its collision with error.
I support the war on terroism. And I’m immensely proud and grateful for our men and women in uniform – especially those that are in harms way. Having said that, I think the war in Iraq is a mistake. I don’t think it has made us safer and I don’t think the reasons our government has provided us for being there are legitimate.
Yes, I know Saddam Hussein was a despot. I know what he did to his own people. However, if that were the criterion for going to war we’d be fighting in a lot of places right now.
I’m glad that I live in a country where I don’t owe blind obedience to a king or President. Where my rights of dissent (at least for the time being) are constitutionally protected.
I agree with the great Republican President, Theodore Roosevelt, who said in 1918: “To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.â€
Seems like they are quite sane. Good for them. Some people are making comments about them being liberals… Seems strange to me to say that, as I am a fiscal conservative who believes in civil rights and freedom, and I would think there would be others “mad as hell” too. They are attacking Bush, and the Government. You’d have to be a moron to think that means that they are attacking America. Dissent is the highest form of patriotism. Especially when the split in the country is nearly 50/50. The founding fathers of this country showed a level of dissent when the splits wasn’t even that good, and they risked being burned, hanged, disembowled, and then possibly drawn and quartered. It’s calledd FREEDOM OF SPEECH since some people want to act as if they are such great american patrons when did the constitution state that you weren’t allowed to state your opinion in PUBLIC!? whats the damn point of freeddom of speech?? They had every right to say what they wanted! and apprently their not shutting up and singing like people told them to and im damn proud of it! their concert was great. As British troops are also dying along side US troops in Iraq I wish the ‘foreign’ emphasis on the DIXIE CHICKS backlash could be played down a bit. We also freely admit you won the American War of Independence, so isn’t it high time the American Military stopped shooting our soldiers.
I am from Canada, but I say cudo’s to the Dixie Chicks for standing up and fighting for what they believe in. “Freedom of Expression”. If people in America didn’t stand for what they believe in, you wouldn’t have all of the freedoms that you have and enjoy today. It comes from others that have gone before you, and taken a stand for what they believe in.
the reason the comment was made in another country is because THAT IS WHERE THEY WERE WHEN THE INVASION STARTED! and they are not liberals either, the problem is our “president” is NOT a conservative as he says he is. Well it’s all good because in the end the Chicks were right, the majority of Americans finally realized the war was a mistake. And they took home 5 Grammies, including the 3 biggest categories.
I absolutely LOVE the Dixie Chicks. They have been my ALL-TIME favorite group since I was little. It’s amazing how if she would have said the same thing NOW people would love it because there are so many people that agree with her now. People are just pissed because she was smart enough to figured out what an idiot Bush is before everyone else did. And the only people who had a problem with it were people in the south…people out in Hollywood didnt have any problem with it because people in the south are so sensitive. Isn’t it interesting that the Dixie Chicks are being chastized for their comments, but has anyone checked out the latest headlines on 60 Minutes “To many in America’s armed forces, these men and women are doing the unthinkable: Active-duty soldiers, sailors and Marines speaking out against the ongoing conflict in Iraq. They’ve signed on to what’s called “An Appeal for Redress” – and they say it’s time for U.S. troops to come home”. Even the troops agree. Amazing isn’t it…. Good for you Dixie Chicks. Rock on….

Natalie makes a point there. It is sad that people are somad about something she said about the president that they make their children hate her. It’s not right and frankly, a little pathetic. I hate George Bush too, am I gonna get death threats? No. Why should she? Just because she’s famous?
It has been interesting to see the development of the whole Dixie Chicks controversy.
I am proud of our country, I wouldn’t live anywhere else, and I would die for my country. With that said I don’t like Bush and I don’t believe in the war. It hasn’t solve a thing, if anything it has just costs us millions of dollars and for what?
I support the troops and the families behind them. They are in my prayers.
I have been a fan of the Dixie Chicks, was a fan during their “lowest” moment, and I will continue to be a fan. They may be famous but I don’t think that because they are able to be heard throughout the world they should just “shut up and sing”! They, just like all American citizens, have the right to speak their mind.
Many actors, singers, etc. have expressed their feelings about the President and the war, in a negative way and their lives weren’t threaten, so why should the Dixie Chicks? I too hate Bush, he’s an idiot, and I have the freedom to say that! Will I get a death threat for saying that? No I don’t think so.
Yes they cried during the interview with Diane Sawyer, not for what they said and not like little “teen girls” but for the simple fact that they are human, and received so much crap for speaking their mind. We all have a limit on how much we can take and I believe that they reached theirs.

I am from Canada and even though I do not live in the US, I believe that what makes America stand out from so many other country’s, is the possibility to speak out about what you agree and disagree with, and normaly you should be able to do so without having to fear for your safety or your life. But unfortunately the Dixie Chicks paid the price for saying what so many of you are thinking today. And I would just like to point out that if they had said this about a president who had turned out to be the best thing to ever happen to the United States, which is clearly not the case, they should have also been able to do so without getting all this crap.
And to all the radio stations who stopped playing their music I say shame on you. By doing what you did you sent out a message of intolerance and I think the world could use a lot less of that. You should of said to those listeners that the Dixie Chicks are a musical group and whether they like their music or agree with their public statements or not, does not give them the right to determine if a song gets plaid on the radio or not. What about the people who like the Dixie Chicks, didn t they have the right to hear their favorite band on the radio ?
I agree with DC Fan. The Dixie Chicks need to be played on the radio. Their music is ten times better than anything on country radio now.

I have just seen the documentary, and it is great. The hounding of (and death threats directed towards) Natalie and the others for what was simply, at the time, a casual off-the-cuff remark, is horrendous, in a country, even in the UK, we are often told is the land of freedom and democracy. It is all very saddening.
One last thing, the war in Iraq is about OIL, PROFITS and GREED, it is not about ‘war on terror’, or WMD’s, or anything else.
I think this is Kind of pathetic.

The part I find funny is that most or all of them would like to consider themselves
“ADULTS.”
I find this funny because as a parent an adult just wants to teach their kid what is right and wrong in this world. As a child myself it kinda cracks me up because you all have nothing better to do than to talk smack about a band or a group, Who has fame and fortune. I don’t really care if you like their music or not but instead of listining to their music and talking about how much you “disagree” with it and how the music shouldn’t be played on the radio’s just shut up and turn the station. No one strapped you down into a chair and MADE you listen to it. So do the adult thing and change the station when their music is playing or change the channel on the T.V if you hear someone talking about them. Like when I’m listining to a song on the radio that I don’t like I either grin and bear it and listen to it for the full 3 minutes it’s on or I change the channel and listen to the station when I know the song is over. If you HATE their music so much why do you listen to it.
The other thing that gets me angry is that as human beings we have a RIGHT to speak our minds and what, just cause the dixie chicks are famous they all of a sudden they lose their rights. This is bull crap no matter what you think. Natalie Maines is speaking her mind about what she believes in and I think that she made a good point. Of course living in the world that we live in today you can’t say anything without someone out there being offended.
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the Dixie Chicks and I am proud that there is finally a singer out there who is willing to speak their minds, despite what it can do to their career.
FORGET ABOUT “SHUT UP AND SING” there are too many people who don’t speak their mind. So keep bringing it our way. We should all learn to take the so called “crap” that the world throws at us.
I’m very proud of the Dixie chicks and words can’t even explain it.
