The blame game
I’ve been following the Debra LeFave story like everyone else….but reading a local news page today, I ran into another story…it’s not receiving national coverage, but it should. A man sexually assaulted a 4 year old girl…and apparently we’re supposed to feel bad for him because he was homeless.
OMG….
full story below.
Zavala charged with sexual battery

Last updated on: 3/23/2006 6:37:56 PMCOLLIER COUNTY: Tito Zavala, the man charged with sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl had his first day in court Thursday and a director from a homeless shelter explained it might not have happened if shelters had more beds to offer.
Saint Mathew’s House Program Director Michael Leigh sees the homeless everyday. He says drug problems and rap sheets make this group even more disadvantaged.
He explained that each night about 10 to 15 homeless people are turned away because these beds are always full.
“When they’re on the street, all of the public is more exposed to them breaking into our houses,” said Leigh.
He also said that most homeless people do not commit crimes.
In this difficult case, Lieutenant Thomas Smith from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office says there’s a lesson to be learned.
“People have to be aware that other persons sometimes don’t have the same moralities they may have,” said Smith.
Zavala had been staying with an East Naples family and living underneath their porch. Tuesday night Zavala allegedly sexually assaulted the family’s 4-year-old girl.
He was found, by the girl’s mother, with his pants down and forcing the girl to bend over her bed.
He ran when the mother found him. Collier County deputies searched for Zavala and eventually caught him when a crew of construction workers caught and held the man until deputies could arrest him.
Zavala has been charged with sexual battery on a child under 12. That is a capitol offense which means a conviction could carry a life sentence.

This kind of person is sick. Very very sick. A person in his right mind wouldn’t do that. He be sentenced to death not even life sentence is enough for his actions.
I say turn him loose for her family to deal with him. Justice will be served in its own way.
“People have to be aware that other persons sometimes don’t have the same moralities they may have,†said Smith.
This would be my favorite part of the entire article. Preying on 4 year old girls isn’t just having a different “morality”, it’s sexual perversion that damages (or even destroys) lives, and should be punished accordingly. And while I understand that many homeless shelters don’t have enough beds, there are plenty of homeless people on the streets who refuse to go to shelters, because they are mentally ill, and believe that if they go, the “government will get them”, or some other paranoid delusion.
I also wanted to add that this is my first time reading your blog, but I love it. I’m going to send a link to my mom for inspiration.
Just send him to Afghanistan that type of thing is legal there.
This is sick, unfortunately it is something you read about way too often in all countries. The law should be extra hard in such cases. Here via Michele’s blogroll game today.
