One thing that upsets me greatly is that Denise laid in that shallow grave longer than she needed to be there. We had hundreds of searchers looking for her off Sumter Blvd. It was agony watching all those searchers come back just so dejected looking from their searches because they weren’t finding anything. And the horror of not knowing where she was. If the CCSO would have AT LEAST let the other police districts KNOW about the phone call MAYBE they would have searched along Toledo Blade all day Friday and into Saturday. And she was found just off Toledo Blade. So because of the CCSO’s covert actions, she laid there, out in that awful area longer than need be.
Not to mention she could still be alive. The mental anguish and suffering the CCSO (Davenport) has caused our family is just intolerable. It’s such an horrific story already, we didn’t need this too. They should have at least told the North Port police after the fact even if they did screw up. They didn’t. Ms Kowalski had to call.
Thank you, Ms Kowalski, with all my heart for seeing this through and following up. I’m so sorry if you’re suffering through this too. My heart goes out to you.
I can’t help having visions of Michael King and wondering what he’s thinking. Is he laughing?
I’m so proud of Nathan. And the babies are doing great.
Love and peace to all,
Peggy

“Goff and Nathan Lee both said Tuesday that they want an apology from Charlotte County Sheriff John Davenport.
“That was the first thing we wanted,†Goff said.”
Folks, I believe that Sheriff Davenport HAS stepped up to the plate on several occasions and has sounded very apologetic. Here’s a couple examples….
“It is always easy to Monday morning-quarterback the game when you weren’t one of the people on the field,” Davenport said.
Davenport said of the dispatchers. “It’s done, but no one wants to leave it alone.”
THERE YOU GO!
Some people might be OUTRAGED that Sheriff Davenport equated the Denise Lee murder and the seriousness of his 911 dispatchers “handling” thereof to some bizarre “football game analogy”… and some might even feel that the “no one wants to leave it alone” comment by the Sheriff is either SICKENINGLY INSENSITIVE or perhaps intimidating…
But to me…(and you have to read between the lines a bit) If those two public statements alone don’t just scream out “I’m Sorry!” ….. I don’t know how much clearer he can say it.

No one wants to leave it alone? is considered an apology?? yeah tell the people to just forget it and leave it alone? This isn’t just some little “oops” had a bad day. I wont go into details about what really happened- we all know what happened to Denise and it isn’t pretty!!!! {maybe he really needs to think about that- has he had nightmares? }Yeah it’s done alright, this needless tragedy will not be forgotten. I think everyone can agree that King is the monster . Although- Denise tried and tried to be saved- Look at how many chances were lost!??!?!? and we are supposed to just leave it alone. :( ? I am not saying he is pleased with the outcome of all of this- but a real apology would be a little more meaningful for the family. Denise’s father even works there and still can’t get an apology?

I remain hopeful that folks will easily identify the sarcasm in my previous post!
Obviously, public statements from Sheriff Davenport fall well short of apologetic or being contrite. In fact, and in my humble opinion… his statements sound somewhat obtuse.

Jeanine…
Don’t worry about it!
In times like this one, we’re all in “uncharted territory.” And sometimes I have a habit of trying to hit home my point even harder. I actually struggle to find any kind of right words to use in all of this stuff, as like I said…we’ve never found ourselves having to deal with this type of situation in the past.
The more time goes on in this story…the angrier I seem to get.
Having lived in and worked in the exact location that all this stuff went down in makes me think of a lot of things. Among them is the opinion that Toledo Blade/41/Price area is normally jammed up with cops. CHOCK FULL of them at all times. There are times when…and I’m not exaggerating…I might see 3 or 4 of North Port’s finest stacked up like almost every third car in traffic. Anybody that knows the area, knows that you might get pulled over and be given a ticket for having your hair messy at any given moment. Maybe even get arrested…for something…anything. Almost a bad rap in this town, as far as the “police reputation” goes.
And here we go….on that day, you’ve got a friggin’ madman at the wheel, toting Denise Lee in the back of a Camaro as she screams and yells in the back seat… Police do get the calls…as King cruises all around town. Eventually, Ms. Kowalski sees what she sees, and correctly calls 911. Aunt Mabel picks up the phone, and they bicker back-and forth in the room ’till Uncle Bob in the background tells her to hang up the phone. And the rest is sickening history.
How on earth… HOW ON EARTH does the CCSO not do a damn thing about it?
How did King get even a half mile down Toledo Blade?
How on earth have heads not rolled over this absurdity?

Hopefully they will.
Pray to God to give Nathan strength and courage. I can’t imagine someone like Davenport taking this laying down. Maybe he’s not as arrogant as he seems. Maybe he’s not as insensitive as he seems.
I found out today that the dispatchers really only lose vacation time. They still go to work everyday. I was picturing suspension as being they couldn’t go into work (like in school) even that upsets me. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong. What kind of reprimand is that? Losing 3 days vacation pay when you’re a county employee with probably gobs of vacation pay.
sigh
I’m sorry, Tammy. I’m just upset. Shouldn’t be using your blog to vent.
Peggy, you use my blog to vent all you want. Any time you want.

Oh, how sad, how so very sad…I hope Denise’s 911 call, the one she made herself, is never released. I truly hope the media respects Nathan’s wishes. (By the way, you do a great job of updating us on the case.)
How very tragic! This story is just so incredibly sad. I never heard anything about this, being in CA, but my heart goes out to the Lee and Goff families.
I'm a 40-something married mother of three teenagers. We recently moved back to my home state of Vermont. I'm a slave employee at Macy's. I can tend to be opinionated. My political views lean to the right. I'll think of more later, lol.
It’s all very sad.
