Murder charges filed against Michael King
Both the Charlotte Sun and NBC-2 are reporting that murder charges have been filed against Michael King in the death of Denise Amber Lee.
NORTH PORT: Prosecutors have filed murder charges against Michael Lee King, the man accused of abducting Denise Amber Lee from her home Thursday.
The Sarasota Clerk of Courts says the charge was filed at about 11:30 p.m. Monday.
King was arrested Thursday evening after an intense search for the woman.
Despite a number of clues, including a 9-1-1 call from the woman while King was allegedly driving around with the 21-year-old mother of two in his car, authorities were unable to find her before she was killed.
Her body was found a short distance away from where King was arrested. In his car, authorities found a shovel and a flashlight.
Her body was found Saturday in a shallow grave near I-75 and Toledo Blade Boulevard.
Now let’s just hope this trial comes about quickly. The North Port Police Department should have plenty of evidence against Michael King. Let Denise get the justice that she deserves.

Let’s hope that justive is served.
i dont know what to say about this very sad story. i whatched it on today show this morning and felt such a tremendous sense of sadness for the husband and children what a horrible situation i hope that man gets what coming to him.
Shoot him, save the tax payers money and the family grief, no throw rocks on him and crush this scumbag. Thats how we do in NYS.
I pray that justice is served and served swiftly. Michael King is absolutely guilty, and the evidence is overwhelming.
Someone tell me why Michael Kings’ family has also not been charged with accessory?
It is a shame that scum bags like Michael waste the tax payers money by giving him a trail and feeding his fat face in jail. A coward like him will never face anyone other than a woman or girl that way he can show his power. I hope the other prisoners have there code of ethics and give him what he deserves.
When Michael King is found guilty of this sickening crime and receives the death penalty, he should be sent to Japan for the sentence to be carried out. In Japan, it is their custom to keep condemned men completely isolated from the outside world, with no newspapers, books, radio, television or exercise privileges. They are left in their cells 24 hours a day to ponder their crimes. The best part is that they are never told when their date with the executioner will be. One day the warden just show up at the cell door to haul them off to their appointment with a rope. No special last meal, no final prayers, nada. Their time can come in two weeks or five years. They never really know when. Now that’s what I call punishment!
Dear Roger,
That’s perfect! And for me, I would feel special comfort in knowing that he wasn’t receiving any psychiatric treatment. No meds! No aspirin, not even for a headache! Why let him have any anti-anxiety drugs such as Xanax or Valium to relieve any worries and concerns. Let him simply deal with it.
I was all for terrorizing him and having him raped and humiliated as Denise was before I read your post. But that’s unlike me and only letting his sickness and evil infiltrate my person.
I like your idea much better.
Thank you for posting it. I feel better that I no longer have to think my own bad thoughts which are so out of character. Your thoughts sound so much more humane, and so much more appropriate.
on dateline, they said he was from michigan, just curious if anyone knows where about in michigan. there was a mike king that lived down the road from me and moved away and left his family and what not behind. his sons are just as weird as he was before he left. wondering if i should start locking the doors.
Yeah, Roger, you are very much on point as to the kind of punishment he needs to receive, but before they put him in his death cell, they should release him to general population and let the convicts have their way with him for at least a week straight, making sure he as access to nothing that would allow him the luxury of committing suicide. THEN send him to solitary confinement with all the pain and other remnants of the general population having their way with him and let him fester until a judge decides, “now it’s your time to meet your maker, “SCUMBAG”!!!
May God ease the pain of Denise’s dad and husband, and bless him with a good woman to help raise those boys, IF, and only if, that’s what he desires!!!! May God bless you and keep you both, Denise’s dad, and husband!!!
Sincerely!!!!!!!
I just watched this story on Primetime and as I watched not knowing the outcome I was hoping for a good one but no. I was crying when I decided to go to my computer and search more on this story. I have never been moved so much by a story like this on tv enough to go and read more about it. Seeing Denise’s dad and husband crying just ripped up my heart! When are we going to start taking mental illness more serious ? Anyone who would do such horrible things to another human being and then shoot them like a dog obviously has something wrong with them. To Denise’s family, I hope you find the strength to deal with the pain and move on. Honor her life with your lives.
Everyone is so worry about denise amber family but no one cares about michael king friend and family you know what yes i am sorry that they lost a love one but michael king lost 2 kids and a women that loved him. You know what it does to the kids people are always looking at them as if they had 3 heads having to move out of the house they called home cause people that lived by them look at her. For abc i think alot of that shit they said is crap cause they told her that they would show the side of michael that she knew but no they did not they show whats looks good for them and her family.
There alot more to his storie that no one knows. Cause if they did know something they would have finded gun power on him, No boold found on him, no gun found.
maybe everyone should look at it both ways not just one.
Cole, I’m always willing to let both sides tell their stories. No one from Michael King’s family…or from Jennifer Robb’s family, I’m guessing that’s who you’re talking about, has come over here and said anything in his defense.
As to finding gunpowder on Michael King….he was soaking wet. As to the gun, there are plenty of places where it could have been thrown, there’s water all over that area. What the police DID find was a dead body….Denise’s body….and Michael King’s DNA on her body….along with her ring and her hair in his car.
Michael King has made no effort to defend himself, except with one crazy story about being abducted himself (this after police had already listened to a 911 call from Denise herself, begging with HIM for her life). What are we supposed to think?
Cole, as Tammy stated this is about Denise Amber Lee! And her family…Michael King lost 2 kids and a woman that loved him????? Excuse me but he should have thought about that before he decided to INVADE DENISE’S HOME AND RIP HER AWAY FROM HER FAMILY! The big difference is she was KIDNAPPED, RAPED, MURDERED!!! His own cousin witnessed Denise in the car! Give me a break! I just saw Kings neighbor a little while ago at the store- she and her family are torn up about this whole thing. They knew what a scumbag he was and called the cops many times because he was a creep. THIS ISN’T A POPULARITY CONTEST. This is a horror story, every woman’s worst nightmare come true. So your comment about trying to make her family look good and his bad is just so insulting. you can sugar coat it all you want a creep is a creep.
Aside- I do feel bad for his kid{S} and anyone he duped into thinking he was a normal human being. Because obviously he is not.
Cole, I have had a little time to think about what you said. I do think it is has to be awful for the family and friends to come to grips with this horrendous tragedy. It is just so unimagineable to think that someone can be so evil. {I would imagine even harder so if you know the person}
I dont think anyone blames his family {except cousin muxlow maybe}
I mean c,mon even his OWN COUSIN witnessed it!! She called from his cell phone, DNA evidence, borrowing gasoline and a shovel! the shovel, evidence, etc…. The witnesses who saw him in the car with her! You cannot make this stuff up.
What I do know is that his family and friends can still see him, talk to him, etc..
Denise’s family cannot.
Honestly, How could ABC have portrayed this story differently to suit you? What happened to Denise wasn’t your happy little story. what he did was heinous and what her family is left to deal with is just unimagineable.
People who defend this type of behavior are likely to perpetuate it. So the next time you are feeling sorry for this monster why dont you think long and hard about how Denise’s last moments were. It was his decision to ruin lives not hers.
Cole,
I am not sure where you are coming from? The Prime Time Special was very well done from no matter what side of the fence you are on. What would you think if this was your daughter, wife, sister. I am sure you would have a VERY different look on all of this. You talk about his kids and girlfriend, what about those 2 little boys that will NEVER see their mother again (and most likely won’t remember her accept for what they are told by a loving family)! What do you think about those APPLES. You don’t think that her boys will be looked at and talked about the rest of their lives? I am assuming that you are from the family of Mike King, but we can’t alway pick our family. You need to stop and think about what you are writing and who it effected overall.
Do you think that King really didn’t do it? (althrough I may regret saying this) You are just as crazy as he is. I am not a person that just attack someone but you asked for it. This event hit very close to home for all of us on here as well as the website.
What kind of human would do this to someone? MONSTER, he isn’t even a human. I would love to really tell you how I feel about him and the comment that you made, but I will let you be this is not worth My time and or Jeanine or Tammy. We are busy trying to help change something that we all hope and pray everynight that this will never happen again to someone. I am going to quote something that her husband Nate just said to me “We want this to not happen again so someother person doesn’t have to explain this to their children or loved ones”.
I hope that you sleep well knowing what you think of this MONSTER>>
Jenn
This is so sad and it makes me so mad that we allow scum like Michael King to live in jail and waste our tax dollars. We need justice like we had in the old west where someone kills someone and we hang him the next. If this was my daughter he would no way lavish in jail, I would take great pleasure to shoot him first in the legs, then arm, going all the up up to his head. I hope that he burns for what he has done, don’t give him lethel injection, nooo electric chair so people can smell that scum as his life is slowly drains from his dam body. Lets save the tax dollars and just get it over with
If anyone wants to help us improve 911 for all! please visit http://www.deniseamberlee.org
thanks
Ryan, M. King is from the Sandusky area of MI. He has three brothers, all married and older. One of the brothers adopted Michael Kings son. The King family is horrified and sickened by the senseless murder of Amber Lee.
It’s a tragedy for everyone. Everybody lost. Our family, King’s family, the community, the sheriff’s office……. So much pain and sorrow. So much heartache. All for a few minutes of sexual gratification. I hope he enjoyed her. I’m sure she was terrified.
I feel sorry for just about everyone involved, including the dispatchers. There are only two or three people I don’t feel sorry for. And that’s Michael King and the people in charge at the sheriff’s office, who it looks as if tried to cover up Ms Kowalski’s phone call. We’ll never know what truly happened that night unless there’s an external investigation and if the same good ole boys remain in the sheriff’s office it’s unlikely an external investigation will ever happen.
The pain never ends. They’ve been doing more searching today. And they’ve found more evidence. Two more pieces to the puzzle. I hope King is shaking in his boots. We’re crying our eyes out.

The behavior and attitudes of the top ranking people at the sheriff’s office is absolutely a disgrace, and I can’t even believe that we might be stuck with that same administration after the next election. It really makes me wonder what people were thinking when they voted in the primary.
Not a day goes by that I don’t think of Denise and her family, and wonder how her young boys are doing. Everytime I walk by the play area at the mall, I think of her.
Peggy {{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}} to you… :(
Is Michael King from the Port Huron area in Michigan? If so i know alot of people that know him, for one would be his sister Debbie Brooks.
I am not sure. I thought I read somewhere that he was from pontiac area. I am not familiar with michigan at all. These people you know haven’t mentioned that they know him? well, I wouldn’t blame them. I would dis own him if I knew him or was related. He’s a sick creepy monster that needs to be punished to the fullest extent.
I am from Venice Florida. I did not know Nathan or Denise Amber Lee, but my heart goes out to her family. I am at a loss for words to describe how deeply I am saddened and heartbroken for them. I prayed for her and then for Nathan and the boys. I have two daughters around Denise’s age so it really hits home.
To the person named COLE ~ I am sure that Mr. Kings family is suffering from the embarrassment of what he IS and what he DID. However, the evidence of his guilt is overwhelming and unmistakable. Besides the hair, ring, DNA and Eyewitnesses what else do you need for a conviction? Gun power residue on hands? Hmm.. Wet from the Waist down because he had been in a canal… Moron. Next time use a Spell checker too ~ you appear to have no intelligence whatsoever due to your remarks and by your spelling and incredible lack of discerning powers of forensics and logical deduction. Cole, some advice… Read More ~ Post LESS and primarily THINK before you post.
My wife and I moved from Venice back in 2005 to South Carolina. We have family that lives all over Venice & North Port. We followed the story up here minute by minute until its conclusion. My heart ached for days for the Lee and Goff Families. My God Bless those so terribly affected by this tragedy. And may God deal harshly and quickly with this worthless piece of human garbage named Michael King. God may forgive him, but I am having a hard time doing so.
As I posted before, Michael King is from the Sandusky area of Michigan. I personally know his parents as they are best friends with my parents. They live directly across the street from each other in their Winter homes in Florida. King’s parents are very good people and continue to love their son, Michael.
Michael King’s trial has been postponed. His girlfriend visits him every other week. Can you believe that a woman would be involved with him??? And she has 2 kids!! His parents watch the kids while she visits M. King in prison.
It’s not up-to us to forgive King. Forgiveness comes from our Creator, that’s all that matters.
John this question would be to you. Do you know if Michael has a sister named Debbie?Michael’s father was once marryied to a woman named Marlyn many years ago, they had two kids named Debbie and Michael, The father or Michael will not talk to either one due to the fact they date black men.Well I’m now marryied to Debbie’s ex husband, and when we were watching Prime time about the story, my husband said that Michael looked just like his ex wife’s brother, so we have been curious ever since the program aired. My husband also said that Michael and his father were from the sanduskey area. Now if he has brothers they are from the fathers second wife, who would be Michael’s step mother. now if i have the right family, they are a bunch of liers about Michael’s real mother. My husband does not talk to his ex, and if he did i don’t think she would tell the truth, and that is if she even knows. Her name today is Debbie Brooks, was King before my husband marryied her back in 82.
it’s just sickening to me that he actually has a girlfriend? who could even look at him without being forced to do so? and she has kids?? ugh she obviously needs help too!! It is a sick sick world.
quote[It’s not up-to us to forgive King. Forgiveness comes from our Creator, that’s all that matters.]end quote
Yes, in the end that may be what matters. But for now, I hope he gets what he deserves. He shouldn’t get to sit in jail getting fatter and fatter on our tax dollars, taking anti depressants or what have you just because he couldn’t control himself.
What matters is he did the unthinkable, disgusting, horrifying act.
every woman’s worst nightmare come true.
what matters is that her boys don’t have their mom.
what matters is her mother and father, sister, brother, husband, friends, and family have to live with the fact that she is gone because of a sick psychopath.
I could go on,,,,, but what would it matter?
JeanineG — why are you so angry?
What matters?? At the end of our physical life our Creator is the final judge. That’s what matters!! What the rest of us say or think or gossip about is of no consequence.
Is what King did a horrendous despicable act? YES!! However it’s NOT up to us to forgive him.
I choose to believe that God was with Denise in her final hours/moments. And Yes, we ALL feel empathy and compassion for Denise’s family and friends.
But — why be angry?? I just don’t understand that emotion when the world is already so filled with negativity.
Michele — I will ask my Mother about Michael’s brothers and sisters the next time that I speak with her.
May the Blessings Be…
John, when you get to know Denise’s family, and see the pain that they’re going through, it’s hard NOT to be angry. When you see her dad, who is clearly still living with such grief, even after a year….her husband, her in-laws, all missing her so much….especially when you see Noah and Adam, growing up without their Mommy…it’s very hard to keep the anger away. I agree, it won’t change anything…..but it’s awfully hard not to feel it.
Jeanine? Peggy? What say you?
Tammy, well said.
Why am I so angry?? I just deleted my post twice. I will have an answer for you later.
John Tammy said it perfectly. My question to you would be how could one Not be angry? I will not go into detail again about why I am angry. {anyone with a heart can figure it out}
However, you say At the end of our physical life our Creator is the final judge and that is all that matters. ? where is the moral compass here? While what you are saying may be correct- it doesn’t excuse heinous crimes. To err is human; to forgive, divine. I’m not divine, so I’m not so good at forgiving disgusting crimes against innocent beings,…. at least not yet……….
I am entitled to my feelings just as you are to yours.
It undermines our civilization because it appears the amoral notion that no matter how much you hurt other people even murder, millions of your fellow citizens will
immediately forgive you – and you don’t even have to say you’re sorry. ??? How is that supposed to stop the crimes?
As for forgiveness, yes, Jesus did ask God to forgive those who crucified him. But there is no indication that Jesus ever forgave, or asked God to forgive, or would
consider forgiving, everyone who commits evil against other people.
If we are automatically forgiven no matter what we do – and even if we do not repent – why repent? In fact, why have God? If people are to forgive everybody for all
the evil they do to anybody, God – and God’s forgiveness – are entirely unnecessary.
what is wrong with holding onto anger when it is righteous and moral anger?
I am thinking of morality here in the sense of the best action, good of society. At the same time I consider that the “turn the other cheek” doctrine as an immoral one,
for it encourages further violence.
we are talking about MURDER here, not just a simple little mistake.
Healthy anger is what will change things. I completely agree with you that one should not hold onto anger for too long- especially if one is not going to do something positive with it. I am directing my anger towards helping others, may they never have to suffer what Denise went through.
Good argument JeanineG. Before I go on, let me clarify “that’s all that matters”. I’m referring to our final judgment (the only one that really matters) — not all the things that matter in day to day life.
Moral compass comes from “within” each and every person – conscious.
Again I say it’s not up to me to forgive King. So who should forgive him? His family, friends… I cannot answer that either.
And who’s to say what GOD does when a murderous Soul crosses over?
As for Jesus — well — I’m not getting into a religious conversation. My belief is in Karma — what goes around comes around — that Earth is a school and we are here to learn lessons that will expand our consciousness. And during our life we should focus on love, ONLY LOVE — send loving thoughts into the universe — Bless every situation and let it go… but that’s just my belief. I respect yours JeanineG as well as everyone Else’s.
And I believe talking about this horrendous crime will help people to heal. I truly hope that Denise’s family and friends are talking about her every day — and that her Spirit is there to help them heal.
We live in a warring world. Always has been since the beginning of time. And I believe that this will never change because Earth is our school.
Thank you JeanineG for expressing your feelings so succinctly. And venting your anger by helping other people is a step in a positive direction.
May the Blessings Be…
Michele — haven’t spoken with my Mother but I do know that M. King’s parents are Jim and Pat. As I said earlier, they’re best friends with my Mother and her husband. And I do know that Jim and Pat are very nice people. I wasn’t born yesterday. I’m 68 yrs. old.
But I will ask Mother about siblings next time we talk on the telly.
John said “Bless every situation and let it go…”
Well, no. That’s not gonna happen. At least, not any time soon.
It would do well for John to read this link. It’ll give you an idea of what a homicide survivor (me and my family) are going thru. Be sure to go to where it speaks about rage.

BTW I have difficulty buying the “what goes round comes round” theory. Denise didn’t have a malicious bone in her body. She was sweet, kind and humble. She wasn’t flaunting her boobies on the beach. She was home with her two small children. What did she do to have this come upon her.
The way she suffered. I can forgive God for taking her. He may have needed her. But I have difficulty forgiving how she suffered. She must have been terrified. She was dragged away from her children who she did everything to protect. She was brutally raped and humiliated. She was blindfolded most likely. She was screaming in terror TERROR! She was literally terrorized. And then she was shot in the side of the head and buried in a shallow grave mostly likely still alive.
Anger? Yeah. I feel anger. She suffered more than Jesus did. Jesus made the decision to die on the cross. He knew why He was dying. Denise? Her ordeal lasted hours.
Anger? Yeah. It never goes away.
Much love and peace to all.
:(
Thank you for the griefwords.com website. The little bit posted on that website definitely helps people like me to understand (a little better) the deep sorrow of grief brought about by murder of a loved one.
Unless one actually goes through the pain and sorrow, it’s never totally understood. That does not mean I don’t empathize with you and family and friends. Yes, I believe Denise Amber was a lovely young woman, decent, loving and kind. And all the days of her life she was surrounded by the love of her family and friends.
However, you must agree that even a woman who walks around with “everything” hanging out, flaunting, teasing, etc. does not deserve the fate that young Denise suffered!!
YES!! What goes around comes around!! If not in 2 hours, 2 days, 2 years, 2 lifetimes, or 200 lifetimes. Eventually all comes back to us!! The Soul of Denise Amber paid her debt!! For whatever lifetime. The lifetime when the body in which her Soul inhabited was less than perfect. This you can take to the bank!! This is MY personal BELIEF!! Again, this does not mean that I don’t empathize with family.
I’m sure that I’ll hear from some of you for this statement. That’s okay. I stand by my beliefs. May the Blessings Be…
I will not get into a debate about this any further, certainly not religion or wasting my time on this king monster. This may be my last post on this thread.
I think it’s terrible to blame victims for their “karma”. However, I do think the consequences on those who victimize others are karma. It’s much more about the result on your self of the actions you do than the result on others of their actions, which we cannot control.
It appears to be an excuse for all kinds of justifications, horrible behavior, irresponsibility and lack of compassion. If one goes by this belief than they could think “why bother being good in this life cause I may have screwed up in the past life that you don’t even remember”? The only one you can truly influence is yourself. But to use your religion to excuse the horrific actions of others or to blame the victims of those acts is wrong, I don’t care what bank you want to put it in.
Religion’s only function should to be to make you a better person and to help others. The other uses of it are those I don’t and cannot support, which is why I don’t belong to any of them. jmo
I can’t speak for Peggy, but I am sure when she said that Denise wasn’t flaunting, etc… what she probably meant was
SHE WAS AT HOME MINDING HER OWN BUSINESS, RAISING HER BABIES!!! Home should be safe- she wasn’t in the wrong place at the wrong time!!
Obviously nobody deserves what Denise went through, no matter who they are or what they are doing. It is just mind boggling that some monster can come into your home and take you away like that.
just my opinion……………
John. I find some of the things you say really creapy! “Paid her debt”? What does that mean? It sounds like something that would be scrawled on a wall or mirror in a horror movie. Who are you? You didn’t know Denise, but claim to know Michael King or his family. Personally, I wouldn’t admit that if I were you.
may the blessings be….??? after a comment like that??? It is a total contradiction.
Ladies! Ladies! You’re picking apart every word/sentence that I utter!! OMG! You’re compelling me to defend myself here. We’re all sharing empathy as well as our thoughts/opinions on this forum/blog. Be nice.
And I’m not ashamed to admit that I know King’s parents… they are wonderful people. They are not responsible for their son’s actions — he’s a grown man (yes, a monster).
Obviously, you do not understand Karma — both good Karma and bad Karma — Karma created in this life and Karma brought into this life from past lives. This is where ethical and moral conduct enters. However, to discuss Karma in depth means getting into a personal belief system and this is not the form for such a discussion.
And as I stated earlier, I Bless every situation and “try” to let it go. Absolutely this is difficult when a loved one is involved… but I would rather Bless than Cuss.
I too have said enough on this thread. And I will end with “May the Blessings Be”.
I wish they would let the father in the same room with that scum of the earth and let him do what he wants, that to me would be justice
Is this the same John?
Jeanine,
No. Different John. And I tend to agree with him, as I’m sure you do.
I read with interest and a little bit of sorrow what others have suggested for Mike KIng. The writer was quite eerie in his description of how the Japanes treat a condemned killer. And the person who said we should stone him to death, ugh. Do they not know “he who is without sin let him cast the first stone?” DUCK !!
