More on the fundraiser for Denise Amber Lee
I’ve decided to include a couple of items that have appeared in either my comments section or at the forum at the Herald Tribune. I worry that things will get lost in the comments (not everyone reads them, although a lot of people do), and not everyone reads the forum (which, although it’s interesting reading, can be filled with a lot of in-fighting). So, here goes.
Left in the comments (and also at the Herald Tribune forum) by my3sons:
Denise Amber Lee fundraiser & window decals – Need opinions
I have been trying to come up with some ideas of how to help in any way I can and fortunately we (North Port) have some young mothers who have stepped up to the plate and set a date for a car wash fundraiser. I am kind of crafty and into scrapbooking, so I have some pretty neat tools to work with and I thought about some window decals that I could die cut. I would purchase all the supplies needed and create them with a die cutting machine I have and then pass them out at the car wash fundraiser. Of course, I would get the approval from her husband first at his discretion. I would like to know what you think about this and if so, any suggestions on what it should say and I could provide a sample to Nathan for his blessing.
As a stay-at-home mom to 3 boys all under the age of 5 and living here in North Port, I just feel compelled to do something, and I love working with my craft tools.
Thanks and looking forward to hearing back from you.
BTW . . . Car Wash Fundraiser is set for 10am-2pm on Feb. 2nd at Buffalo Wild Wings lot at 4301 Aiden Lane in North Port
Mark your calendars to have your vehicles washed for a really good reason.
And as to donating, this was found at the forum, the author asked that it be copied and pasted wherever possible, so I’m doing so:

C’mon folks! Put your wallet where your heart is!As a community we have only raised $8000.00 for the family of Denise Amber Lee who was abducted and murdered recently in North Port, Florida.
This is not nearly enough money to help the husband and two small boys through this horrible time.
Please set aside what you are doing at the moment and write out a check for $10.00. Then copy this request and put it on every thread, every post, every list, every myspace you have access to.
This is a tragic brutal murder of a loving wife and mother. They deserve more from the members of the State of Florida than this. What if it were your sister, cousin or mother?
Have mercy. Times are tough, but most of us can spare 10.00. Make that check out now and mail it to:
A permanent fund has been established at SunTrust Bank to support Denise Lee’s family. Donations may be made at any SunTrust Bank branch in Charlotte County or North Port. Checks may also be mailed to the Denise Amber Lee Memorial Fund, care of SunTrust Bank, 18501 Murdock Circle, Port Charlotte, FLTHIS IS SOMETHING YOU CAN DO TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!!! DO IT AND FEEL GOOD ABOUT IT!!!!
Please don’t forget to pass this post on to other places. These folks need 10 times more than has been collected.

Good luck! I’ll do my part. Wished I lived closer so I could attend the carwash.
I am a teacher at Vineland Elementary School in Rotonda West, FL where Denise Amber Lee attended. Although I did not know her personally, I was lucky enough to have her sister, Amanda, as a student…and I’ve known her brother Tyler and father Rick, as they are very involved with baseball, as are my boys…
This is such a horrendous tragedy, and we at VES are in the process of planning an annual fundraising drive to assist the family. Our tentative plan is to hold our drive the week of Valentine’s Day (2/11-2/15) and in future years, we will do an annual drive the last week in Aug. (since that’s the month of her birthday, and her wedding anniversary)…The Charlotte Co. Sherriff’s Dept. has expressed interest in joining us, as well as Myakka River Elementary (where her husband attended) and Lemon Bay High School. (I will comment again once administrative approval is given and plans are finalized.)
I strongly feel that Nathan will need continual assistance, and I hope that in some small way, we may be able to ease the financial burden that he will face, as he attempts to carry on without Amber…I cannot even imagine…
Every time I look at my own children, I get chills thinking that this truly could happen to any one of us…Their families are constantly on my mind… I pray that God strengthen them and comfort them during this extremely difficult time… and that Michael Lee King is punished to the fullest extent!! I certainly know what I would do, if my baby was taken in such a selfish, cowardly manner…
My name is Lauren, and even though I wasn’t personal friends with Amber, I did know her from HS. I currently live in Philadelphia, but I heard about this story from a friend of mine on CafeMom.com. This really hit home hard for me. I have been trying to figure out a way to create a trust for her family. I have already found other mothers in the community of CafeMom who are willing to donate on a monthly basis. Since a lot of people are finding a way to help this family through the current horrendous time, would it be best to set it up as a college fund for the boys?
Please let me know what your opinion is. I would set it up with Wachovia as that bank is national and I would be able to contribute from the distance. I might need to contact Nate in order to get him to co-sign on the trust.
I know that if this ever happened to me, I’d hope that the police would turn a blind eye as they let my husband in the interrogation room alone with the person responsible.
Lauren – FYI . . . They have a permanent fund set up for Denise’s family. Maybe you just want to contribute to that and the family can do what they want with the money from that?! Here is what info I found:
Checks, with Denise Lee Fund written in the memo section, can also be mailed to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office c/o Denise Lee Donation Fund, 7474 Utilities Road, Punta Gorda, FL 33982.

Just a follow up to my previous message regarding our fundraising drive for the Lee Family. We are conducting the “Life Through Love” Fundraising Drive~in Honor of Denise Amber Lee the week of February 11-15. All west county schools are on board (where Denise and Nathan attended): Vineland Elem., Myakka River Elem., LA Ainger Middle School, and Lemon Bay High School. The Charlotte Co. Sheriff’s Dept. is also participating. We are accepting cash donations and gift cards to be given directly to the Lee family. Staff members are also collecting diapers and formula. However, I do not yet have specifics on size and type of formula…(I’ll get back with you on that) It is our understanding that the family has asked that we do not donate toys and clothing, as they have plenty. I certainly would encourage other businesses to join us in our efforts to assist the family. We have also decided that this will become an annual event and we will hold our drive the last week of August each year (the month of her birthday and wedding anniversary)…Please pass this information on to anyone you may know residing in the Englewood area, and encourage them to drop off their donations at any one of these locations. I am so proud to see such an outpouring of love and support for this wonderful family…I just wish there was more we could do to help them…
Leisa – Is there a contact number/email if anyone were to have questions in regard to this. I would love to pass this along to as many people I can, but would like to have that information just in case.
Thank you and thank you for doing this. It is great.
Leisa,
You are such a wonderful person! I am so glad to know that there are people like you in the community. Ever since I was young, I knew that you would be a moving force in the community. I no longer live in the Englewood area, is there any way that people from out of state could donate? I’ll be sure to pass all the information on to the CafeMom member who would also like to contribute.
Thanks again for being such a great influence. The world needs more people like you!

Good morning everyone,
Sorry about the contact information. I’d be happy to answer any questions regarding the drive… you can email me at arritts@gmail.com or at school: leisa_arritt@ccps.k12.fl.us
Call me if you need me: 941-286-1142
…and Lauren, you are such a sweetie…I don’t know about being a moving force, but I’ll tell you…I think this whole thing has deeply affected everyone, especially moms…The family is constantly on my mind, although I don’t know how we could ever help ease their pain, I felt like, maybe in some small way, I could initiate something to ease the burden a little…
Take care everyone…
Leisa
Oh, one more thing…I made the “Life Through Love” flyer that has just been distributed..I’d be glad to send it to those interested via attachment…Just let me know
And, I remember reading a comment about someone making white ribbons with 2 blue beads on them…I love this idea and would love to use it, if you don’t mind…We would like to make them and set up a booth at our annual school carnival (Feb. 23) and ‘sell’ them for a $1 donation to go directly to the family…Does anyone have a ‘visual’ so I could see what they look like?
Thanks again,
Leisa
My name is Trisha Perkins. I am a 31 year old stay at home mom. I want to first start by saying that the women who have spoke before my entry have helped me in moving forward to doing something passionate… The man who murdered Denise is being held a mile from our home. We as a communtity are very helpless when it comes to this horrible mans fate, however I believe that we can give justice to her family… I strongly feel that we need more help with this tragedy…I have written to many organizations and have had little response….I ask myself, What can I do??? I do not have any connection to the family?? I however would hope for my own family to be helped. So again, what can we do?? Something bigger than a fundraiser or car wash…I think we need help…College scholarships…This families home morgage paid off..Other family members provided with enough money that they can leave their jobs and help Full-Time…I want to add that $92,000 is amazing. Every dollar has a piece of someone’s heart and character on it…Let’s hope that we can work on more…Where do we go next???
Its really sad how the fbi has not checked out the people they should.
