Michael King’s statements to become public record
It’s been a quiet week so far on the Denise Amber Lee case, but that looks like it’s getting ready to change. A judge today ruled that statements that Michael King, Denise’s alleged killer, be made public. His defense attorneys were trying to keep his statements out of the public eye, saying that they contained things that could be construed as a confession. The judge disagreed. But it makes you wonder just what the attorneys are trying to keep secret.
My husband’s opinion is that perhaps his statements should not become public, that it could “pollute” the potential jury pool. My personal feeling is, there is so much evidence, that it doesn’t matter. They have Michael King pulled over, soaking wet, in the general vicinity of where Denise’s body was found. They have evidence that he took her to his house (duct tape with her hair on it). Denise was smart enough to leave evidence of herself inside of his car (her hair and her ring). The biggest piece of evidence, of course, is Michael King’s DNA inside of Denise’s body. He can’t even say she was a willing participant….they have HER 911 call (which, if released, I will not post here, I will honor Nathan’s request on this one, I happen to agree with him) begging for her life and to be let go. And willing participants don’t wind up shot in the head and buried. They could try this case in VERMONT, where no one has ever heard of it, and the evidence would allow the jury to find him guilty.
In my opinion, Michael King should just go ahead and plead guilty. Save the family the horror of going through a trial. He’s hurt them enough. Just let it end.

Tammy, I agree. I cannot imagine how anyone in their right mind could ever believe he is not guilty. I dont care where they find a jury. I just cringed when I saw the picture with the article. do we really need to see his picture???? I am still trying to get it out of my mind. For the life of me I cannot understand how is attorney can sleep at night? I mean I realize it is their job- but with the surrounding circumstances and all the evidence, how could they try to protect him? :( grrrr
Jeanine, I chose NOT to post his picture, it creeped me out that much. I cannot imagine what Denise went through, and looking at Michael King on the news doesn’t make it any easier. It actually makes it worse. I decided that we didn’t need to see that here.
thank you Tammy :( I agree.
it’s unfortunate, but it seems to happen in EVERY murder case out there. it’s the same deal with the michelle gardner quinn case, the accused murderer is trying to say he was coerced into saying things by cops and wants statements thrown out. now saying he’ll never get a fair trial in chiitenden county so it got moved to rutland. guarranfrickinteed michael king will attempt to do the same if he hasn’t already. it sucks! if a vermont jury found michael king guilty, he’d only get 35 to life though…
There is too much evidence that directly links him to this nightmare. He can say whatever he wants- regardless of the courts ruling- he wont get away with this. {prison is too easy compared to what this monster did} My husband and I were talking earlier and he thinks they should release him. To Let the family and the community take care of him. There would be a mob waiting right at the front door. I do wish they would stop putting his picture in the papers though. why do they feel they need to?? :(
Jeanine, I agree, there certainly would be a mob waiting for him. They even had extra security when he appeared in court.
Jess, that’s why we’re glad Michael King is being tried in Florida, not Vermont. Even if they move it out of the county, at least here, he’s likely to get the punishment that he deserves.
It all looks conclusive.
I would say the real “HERO” here is the victim. She tried so hard to survive, and left a trail a MILE WIDE AND A FOOT DEEP……to keep her wits and be so BRAVE…WOW!! Her killer obviously comes from a long line of family members right out of bizarre horror film. This beautiful woman was just living her life. May God watch over her family. Amen
everone is so concerned about the trail that should not even be happening. there is to much evidence. my concern is for the children and nathan. nathan and the children lost a wonderful person. nathan instills denise”s memories inpictures and memories. this person did not onty take a mother but a ,mother, wife, friend, and daugter. i am not a real religouse person but i hope he gets what he deserves for this family. there is nothing this thing(king) cancome up with for what he took!!!! i am not a religous person but my prays go out to them!!
While the evidence is overwhelming, the trial is taking place because the prosecution is seeking the death penalty and did not offer the defendant a plea deal. If he pled guilty, then he would automatically leave himself open to a death sentence. At this point, the defense team’s sole purpose is to save their client’s life by casting reasonable doubt that he killed Denise Lee. That’s why they keep reiterating the fact that the gun was never found and that both the cousin (Muslow) and his friend (Salavador) owned 9mm pistols. Interesting that he borrowed the shovel, gas can, and another item from the cousin and was at the shooting range with his friend on the day of kidnapping/rape/murder. Perhaps he intended to make them suspects in the crime should he be arrested.
hearing Denise lee’s 911 call is chilling, i have worked as a 911 operator in a very busy and have heard horrible calls. Hearing her plead for her life is horrible. king is one sick man who should be put to death.
Look… Gas, Electrocute, or Hang this Motherf*cker!! He is an animal that should not be allowed to breath another seconds!!! Later for all of these politically correct posts!! Let’s put wild infected rabid animals to death!!
FD
no one has ever said how the Lee house happened to be chosen
did michael know them or follow her home ?
Liz
She did not know him. We may never know why he targeted her home. What we do know is she lived in a quiet area and not a busy neighborhood.
he could of followed her or stalked her for a while. {she did not leave her home that day until she was taken}
The only way we will know is if this monster talks.
After the way he sat there with the same downcast, blank, and/or ashamed demeanor, I wonder why he didn’t just make a plea deal to avoid the death penalty. I wonder who advised him one way or the other on that one. I’d like to find out more, but it’s all over now.
Except it will be interesting to see what Judge Economou decides as to the recommendation of the jury. That was pretty intense – 12-0 in favor of his death.
I am trying to find one thing about this case: How did he get inside her house??? Did she know him?? Did he know her? Did she just open the door to a stranger?? I am just trying to pull a lesson out for myself. It is driving me crazy. I want to know if there was a forced entry or not.
Yes, this is a horrible ordeal…Michael King deserves to be severely punished for his obvious crimes…but who has the right to decide if a person shall live or die? King did not have the right to decide when denise lee would depart this world…nor does a governor have the right to decide when king shall die…i can only pray that this vicious cycle of death that we as a people have allowed to continue will soon perish, and perhaps we will have the opportunity to save our souls…i am certainly not considering that we be lenient with king..he is a evil person who has commited to worst of crimes…but how are we any different…we fight fire with fire? I say let him rot in jail..let him be raped an beaten by a huge convict for the rest of his life..we should not give him the easy way out..which is death..which is what he wants but will never admit
