Michael King has brain issues?
Ok, I’ve been stewing on this one all day, trying to decide what to say. I guess, first, a little background info. I’ll be lazy and give you the Herald Tribune story.
Judge: Doctors to examine King’s brain

Published Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 5:02 a.m.SARASOTA — The man accused of kidnapping and murdering Denise Lee will be examined to see if a past head injury has affected his brain function, a judge ruled Friday.
Attorneys for Michael King,, 36, said in a motion that the defendant had suffered a head injury and they wanted doctors to do a test known as a PET scan. No date has been set for the test.
Experts say such injuries can change a person’s personality and behavior later in life.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for King, who is charged with kidnapping, rape and murder.
Lee, 21, was reported missing from her North Port home on the afternoon of Jan. 17.
Her body was found two days later in a shallow grave six miles from her home. She left behind a husband and two young boys.A lab has matched King’s DNA to DNA found on Lee’s body, according to court documents filed by the prosecution.
King is being held in the Sarasota County jail without bail. He attended the brief hearing wearing a yellow jail jumpsuit.
Earlier in the week, authorities released pictures and other documents reletaed to case.
Ok, still here? Grrrrrrr. I mean, spare me. I’ve read about the alleged “head injury”, back early in the case. If I’m remembering correctly, he got hurt sledding as a child. So, we’re going to blame that for what he did to Denise?! You’ve got to be kidding me. Thousands of people suffer head injuries….they don’t go out and pluck women out of their homes (where they are living a quiet life, caring for their children), rape and murder them. I mean, come on! My own father was in a very serious car accident when I was a child, and suffered brain damage. He was never the same, but neither did he become violent. To the best of my knowledge, he never abducted, raped and killed any women.
Michael King is a monster. To try to blame an injury from his childhood for what he did to Denise is beyond ridiculous. I know his lawyers feel they’re doing their jobs, but I’ve got to believe they’re grasping at straws here.
The judge also granted a defense motion to require the state to list the aggravating circumstances on which the state will rely in seeking the death penalty. Ummmmm….what do they need to know?! Denise was taken from her home, and killed. Her hair was found both in his house and in his car, along with her ring. His dna was found on her body. She was shot and buried in a shallow grave. He was found close to the site of her burial, wet and muddy. What part of this isn’t clear? Again, I know they’re doing their jobs, but at least file motions that make some kind of sense. I guess it’s just a delay tactic. Whatever. I have faith that the justice system will take care of Michael King. I just wish that the families did not have to go through all of this nonsense.
In other news, the North Port Police also released pictures from the night of the kidnapping, both of Michael King and of his car. I’ll post the video from the Herald Tribune on it, primarily for people who don’t live locally and may not have access to it. I won’t post the actual pictures. The sight of that man just creeps me out too much.
And now, for something a little more pleasant. Tomorrow is the monthly get-together for the DALANNA group. If you’re a member, I hope I see you at the Englewood Sports Complex. It’s great to get all the people who have come to care about and love Nathan, Noah, Adam and the Goff family, and to watch our kids get to know each other and have so much fun.
He should be taken to Bush Gardens and fed to the lions or used as shark bait! But we are too civilized for that. Instead, waste more time and money trying to find out if he has a mental problem. Ofcourse he’s insane, what sane person would do what he did and where do you draw the line? No extra money to train 911 but money for this crap! At worst, he gets the death penalty….I researched and he has to wait in line…200 ahead of him. One person has been waiting since 1974. Average wait-30 years. Give him a snack pack and drop him off in alligator alley…waste more time and money and give him a fair trial, not to mention the family having to go through this again! I just read about the girl who called 911 with no response and was murdered. I hope she has friends and family to fight for her. I have no patience tonight…911 is not working, the justice system isn’t working……the pycho’s are crawling out of the walls! Their blaming the economy. Right!
You’ve got to be kidding me. A brain injury made him do it – is that the defense now? What a complete waste of time. Just fry the man and be done with it already.
Why hasn’t his “supposed brain injury ” been checked into a long time ago? What about all the allegations that people made before Denise? stephanie natale?? why didn’t it prompt their attention before??? grrrr…… I really hope they are seriously checking the surrounding areas wherever he has lived. He could have done this to others too:(
with their budget cuts and what not if they need help researching or tracking things down would gladly volunteer :(
We live in an era when it’s perfectly acceptable to blame others, blame something else, shift it away from our own sense of right and wrong, away from our own accountability. It’s yet another sign that we’re slowly losing the battle for a civil and just society. If the monsters among us can excuse their behavior and get off because of it, then we’re accelerating down a slippery slope indeed.

i cannot agree with you more. i have known denise since i was 4 years old, and her death absolutely devastated me. because of michael king, i no longer have her. i love and miss her soo much, and not a day goes by where i don’t think about her. every time i see a picture of her, every time i read about her, every time i visit her grave; i break down in tears. her death has changed me forever, she made such an impact on my life, and i will NEVER, EVER forget her. and just the mere thought of people trying to blame king’s actions on a stupid childhood accident is completely ridiculous. it is NONSENSE. hopefully that pathetic defense excuse will never hold up in court, and he gets what he deserves: the death penalty. i swear to god, if that motherf***** doesnt get the death penalty, i’ll kill him myself. if he thinks its okay to take someone that so many people, including myself, loved, away from us; and get away with it; he is seriously disturbed..which he obviously is anyway. i believe in death for death, and when the trial begins; i will be wishing and hoping that he will soon take his last breath.
R.I.P. denise, i miss and love you so much; and i will never forget you.

Abby, your comment brought me to tears. I never had the honor of meeting Denise, but I have met a lot of her family, and I know how much this has affected them. It’s affected the whole community.
And I’m with you….if he doesn’t get the death penalty, I’ll HELP you kill him…..and there’s a lot of other people who feel exactly the same way. But I have faith that he will get what he has coming to him….even though it will never be enough.
Abby, I am so sorry. { and sorry sounds so inadequate} I cannot imagine what you and her family are going through. You can tell there was just something so unique and special about Denise. Even those who didn’t know her cannot let it go. Never before this, have I had nightmares, and thoughts about someone I didn’t even know – so often. It has made me question so many things in life,……..But mainly why? why? why? I cannot even think about that monster without getting enraged. There are not many words that would be appropriate to write about {I am afraid Tammy will kick me off the message board if I let it all out} gggggggrrr… lol … I will continue to Help Denise’s family any way I can.
thank you guys so much, that really means a lot. i really hope he gets what he deserves, but honestly, with the way everyone feels towards him; i don’t think he stands a chance. hundreds of thousands of people want him dead; and hopefully our judicial system will agree. and janine, there really was something incredibly special about her. this sounds weird to say, but she really was just a perfect human being; and though nobody EVER deserves what happened to her, i think she deserved that less than anyone. i mean, her kids were so young, and she had so much life ahead of her, you know? im just glad she completed a few of her life goals, by getting married and having two beautiful children. but there’s just so much she didnt get to experience, and that’s just so saddening. we can’t bring her back, but we can certainly do all we can to prevent this from happening again. check out deniseamberlee.org for ways that you can help! and if you’re a myspace or facebook member; check out the cause “Remember Denise: Fix 911″ i am an active member in both, so message me if you have any questions!

I recently watched the dateline NBC story of this case, and I am completely shocked as to why this monster of a man still lives, scum like him should be purged from the earth, a head injury means nothing, he still took the life of an innocent girl, and now he should pay for it, if this man goes free I hope someone hunts him down before I do.
Once again society is trying to bring up details on an injury that they said caused this horrific death to happen. This man is an animal who has become enraged and this man DESERVES to face his maker. I feel that the death penalty is too good for this guy…he should receive a more horrific death, just like the one he caused this beautiful young Mom to endure. Every murderer has a Mother who feels for her children but this man deserves to have his life ended right now….it is unfortunate that he will be allowed to stay in a jail cell, receive food each day until his final hour. I feel this is unfair but unfortunately my say does not count. This man’s life should be ended. My feelings go out to his son who will have to live with this for the rest of his life but I am glad that he has a family to help him along in his time of need.
Is there more to this? I don’t think this monster is so dumb as the defense wants to let on. Did King know her father was a deputy sheriff? Or was the whole thing entirely random? What was in Kings past to show he had a propensity to do such a horrendous act? Did he hate cops?
I am not quite sure how to respond. How would anyone know who could have the propensity to commit such heinous acts on anyone? we may never know what provoked this monster , I believe it was Random. He may have seen her at the store and followed her prior to that day? How will we ever know? I am not sure I would ever believe this psycho if he did talk. There appears to be no prior criminal record {to which he would be getting revenge on cops} I do believe he may have done this before though and this time he was caught. All thanks to Denise. She solved this case!
Just another criminal trying to use the insanity plea to get a lesser sentence. In my opinion , when the insanity plea fails , he should get an additional life sentece tacked on for frivolous claims so when he goes to Hell he can fry twice! I’m all for the death penalty in cases like these or they”l just commit the same atrocity when some idiot judge lets him out on parole in 15. There better be (with no chance of parole) tacked on !
