John Couey found guilty of all charges in the murder of Jessica Lunsford

I never doubted for a moment that John Couey would be found guilty, there was just too much evidence against him. Although you always have to worry that there will be one person on the jury who confuses the issues and causes a deadlock; thank God, that didn’t happen today.

BREAKING NEWS: Couey Found Guilty Of Murder

MIAMI — After about four hours of deliberation, a jury reached a verdict in the trial of the man accused of kidnapping, raping and killing 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford in 2005.

John Evander Couey was found guilty by the jury on all counts, including first degree murder, kidnapping, sexual battery and burglary.

As the verdicts were read, Couey stood staring straight ahead and swaying slightly. Throughout most of the proceedings, Couey was seen coloring or drawing.

Jessica’s father, Mark Lunsford, who had fixed his eyes for days on Couey, showed no emotion.

Prosecutor Peter Magrino told jurors in his closing arguments Wednesday that overwhelming physical evidence and Couey’s alleged own admissions were enough to convict him in Lunsford’s death.

“He’s not just a killer, given the testimony and evidence in this case,” Magrino said. “He’s a first-degree murderer.”

Now it goes to the penalty phase. Does this man deserve to live? I don’t think so. He clearly didn’t feel that Jessie deserved to live, deserved a chance to grow up. He deserves no better. Hell, the death penalty is too good for him. I still think they should just lock him in a room with Jessie’s dad, that might come close to being just punishment.

In the meantime, let’s remember Jessie…she was a beautiful little girl, and deserved so much more than what she got.
