Gary Allan~~Arcadia, Florida
Last night I was lucky enough to go to the Gary Allan concert held at the Turner Argi-Civic Center in Arcadia. The Turner Center is a story in itself. During Hurricane Charley, it was used as a shelter. With several hundred people inside, the roof partially collapsed. This concert is the first real event since it reopened. They’ve done a wonderful job, the place is absolutely beautiful.
Anyway….I’ve been sort of quietly suggesting we go to this concert for the last month or so. Ben wasn’t familiar with Gary Allan, and wasn’t so sure he wanted to go, but finally agreed to take me. Turns out he loves Gary Allan as much as I do. What a wonderful show! We had decent seats, but Ben, being the photographer that he is, decided to venture towards the front and see what he could get for pictures. About 10 minutes later, he came back and told me that I should go up with him, that you could actually get quite close to the stage. So, off we went.
Close?! I was probably standing 10 feet away from Gary and the band alot of the time! It was really cool. Gary put on a wonderful show, and I got to see a bunch of fights to top it all off. The really wild thing about the fights that broke out…the girls seemed more into fighting than the guys! I mean, there were skinny 5 foot girls just flinging themselves at the security guys. What a sight!
As usual, Ben got some really, really great pictures…even better than usual, given that we got so close to the stage. There’s too many for me to post here….so I’m going to post some here, and then please go check out his new photo thing that we’ve been playing around with…there’s more there (and he’s still in the process of adding), and they’re bigger, so the detail is much better.

Thanks to all the great people at the Gary Allan message board who were kind enough to provide me with his name!

One of the best parts of the show was when Gary sang the song “Life Ain’t Always Beautiful”. To me, that’s just one of the most beautiful songs, and if you know the story behind Gary’s last few years, it just gave me chills. He actually sat down on the edge of the stage to sing it.
