Charlie Daniels and Toys For Tots
Sunday afternoon, we went to a concert put on the benefit Toys For Tots, a program I really believe in. It started out with a motorcycle run from Punta Gorda to Port Charlotte. Many had toys strapped to the back of their motorcycles, we even saw a girl’s bike on the back of one. :)
Fundraisers bring in lots of Toys for Tots
A series of events to benefit Charlotte County’s Toys for Tots program brought in about 10,000 toys over the weekend.
A Charlie Daniels Band concert, a motorcycle toy run and an auction were among the events that resulted in a “very huge success” for the organization, said Co-chairwoman Lynda Kish.
“We have a mountain of toys,” Kish said, adding that a total count was not yet complete. “It was above our expectations.”
Several of the events — including the motorcycle run and a concert at the county fairgrounds — are annual events for Toys for Tots, an organization sponsored locally by the U.S. Marine Corps League 756 that distributes new toys to the Salvation Army and other charities so they can be given to disadvantaged children at Christmas. In Charlotte County, 30,000 to 55,000 toys are given away each year.
Sunday’s motorcycle run from Laishley Park in Punta Gorda to the Charlotte County Fairgrounds attracted 6,000 bikes. The event and the Charlie Daniels concert were sponsored by ABATE of Florida Peace River Chapter.
“They stopped counting after that,” Kish said. “An hour later, they were still pulling in.”
The amount of motorcycles involved was just unbelievable. As usual, Ben got us lots of pictures.

The amount of toys collected was just amazing. Here’s a picture of one of the trucks…they said towards the end of the show that they had filled three trucks!

Baylee found a baby to care for. There were a bunch of babies there, and amazingly, most seemed pretty content, even amongst all the people and noise.

The Charlie Daniels Band put on a wonderful show…and Ben got some great pics of the man himself.

And as always, there were wonderful opportunities for just people watching!

I’m so glad that we got to be a part of raising up “a mountain of toys”…and I can’t wait for next year!

That looks an excellent and very worthy event. Those pictures are excellent; so many bikes!

Great pictures! Looks and sounds like it was a great time. Thanks for sharing.
Oh that looks like a WONDERFUL time!! We go to an event similar to that every year and it’s tons of fun! I love the pics.
Wonderful! My Christmas season is never quite complete unless I see that long line of bikers going down the road with toys attached to their handlebars and the backs of their seats. Such a great cause.
