An end to the killer ice cubes?

When we moved into my Gramma’s old house a few months back, I made a decision to leave my own appliances behind, and just use the ones that were in the house. It saved me the last month’s rent at the old house, and the appliances in the house were relatively new, so it seemed a smart choice. Overall, it’s worked out. But…..

In the new house, we have a side-by-side GE refrigerator with ice and water in the door. I love it, as I’m terrible about remembering to make ice, and the kids aren’t much better. But from time to time, when you’d push the little lever for your ice cubes, nothing would happen. Well, you’d hear a bunch of noise, but no ice cubes would appear. When you opened the freezer to find out what the deal was, a bunch of ice would come flying out and attack your feet. Worked out well for the cat (I’d just throw some of the ice cubes in her bowl)….but didn’t do much for my drink. So I decided that it was time to try and figure out what the problem was.

Off to google I went in search of a solution. I found this site:

which included a repair forum, where you could describe your problem, and some smart appliance guy would come to your aid.

I decided to give it a try. I first tried to search the forum, and found similar problems, but not the exact thing, so I decided to post myself. Here’s my little post:

Later on the same day, I received a response, as follows:

It even included a link to the parts I needed, so I didn’t have to go searching, and instructions on how to take the whole thing apart (good for my husband….things can be interesting without instructions!). I decided to try the first solution, and clicked on the part number…$1.97! Needless to say, I’ll be ordering, the check-out process is just as easy as the rest of the site, just a couple of clicks.

So…hopefully my ice issues are over. Bad for the cat….but great for my drinks!
