Amber Dubois

I had read some speculation in articles about Chelsea King that perhaps the same man could be responsible for another missing girl, Amber Dubois. Amber has been missing for a little over a year. Well, it appears that her remains have now been found. :( It’s interesting that after all this time, only after arresting registered sex offender John Albert Gardner for Chelsea’s murder, that Amber has finally been found. This is a girl who did not receive a lot of press coverage, a lot of people that that perhaps she was a runaway. Clearly not.

Remains of Missing California Girl, 14, Found Year Later
ESCONDIDO, Calif. — Skeletal remains discovered in a rural area of California were identified Sunday as those of Amber DuBois, a 14-year-old San Diego girl who had been missing for more than a year.

Fox News Radio reported the body was identified following a brief press conference.

San Diego County Sheriff Michael Gore said the remains were found in the area of Pala, in East County, Calif.

Dubois was last seen walking alone to school on Feb. 13, 2009.

There has been renewed interest in her disappearance following the murder of another San Diego teen, 17-year-old Chelsea King, of Poway.

Sex offender John Albert Gardner III, 30, has been charged with the attack on King, which happened February 25 as she jogged in a park near her home.

Gardner reportedly lived in Escondido from January 2008 to January 2010. Police said they contacted him eight times during that span and began a fresh look at him and any possible ties to Dubois.

Authorities refused to say if Gardner is being linked to Dubois’s death, the North County Times reported.

He pleaded not guilty Wednesday to the charges in the King case.

Escondido Police Chief Jim Maher told a packed news conference that authorities were following a lead when they discovered Dubois’s remains, but he refused to detail what the lead was or to provide details about the site where the skeleton was found.
