A letter from Peggy Lee~Pass this on if you can vote for DeVries
Dear friends,
I realize some of you live in Charlotte County and some of you don’t. But, just about all of us have friends in Charlotte County. Ken DeVries who is running for sheriff will be at the corner of Rt 776 and Pine Street from 11AM – 1PM tomorrow carrying signs. We plan on being there but we have the babies tomorrow so we don’t know exactly how long we’ll last. If you or any of your friends are interested in seeing Ken DeVries elected please join us in supporting him. We honestly believe this man has a chance and he’s the right man for the job.
As you know, Bill Cameron has treated our family deplorably and with disdain. He’s also lied about us. All because we want an external investigation into what happened on January 17. Grave errors were made that night in the 911 Call Center. It was much more than a “missed opportunity” which is what Cameron and his campaign manager, John Davenport, would have us believe. I’ve read the internal affairs investigation 3 times and we need reform in our 911 system badly. Now that we’ve delved into this, we’re finding other errors with other people that haven’t had the publicity we’ve had. We hear horror stories all the time. We hear good stories too. All we’re asking is that the problems be acknowledged, addressed and fixed. And if Cameron is elected that will probably never happen and if it does it’ll probably have to be at the federal level.
In any case, please, if you feel so inclined and would like to see Ken DeVries elected, please join us tomorrow or pass this email on to as many Charlotte County friends as you can.
Thank you dearly,
Peggy Lee

Quite bummed that he won. :(
hopefully we will move to sarasota county in the future.
I just wanted to stand on 41 this morning with a sign that says “WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?” I am truly shocked that Cameron won! But I guess I shouldn’t be since Obama did too. I just hope that they both prove us wrong.
Even scarier was his comment that he plans to keep the sheriff’s office on the current path. I guess Ignorance is bliss for some. grrrr
I wouldn’t wish him on Sarasota County. Actually their 911 system did a very decent job in Denise’s case. And apparently they’ve won some awards nationally. I wouldn’t wish him on anybody.
But, hey, it’s not over. We still plan on doing all that’s possible to bring about changes in our 911 system. Transparency and awareness. Those are our battles.
Thanks for the support guys. I think most people are just not as immersed in this issue as we all are. And that most people were just voting down straight party lines. Which is why Melo got more votes than DeVries. This is all strictly my opinion and I would’ve picked Melo over Cameron. Actually the choice between DeVries and Melo was tough for us.
Oh well. The fight to fix 911 in Charlotte County is still on! We’re not going to go away this easily!
Peggy, I think you’re right….a lot of people simply aren’t aware of the 911 issue, and the fact that Cameron was the man in charge that night. My big problem with him is that he (along with Davenport) simply will not take responsibility for what happened that night, or even admit that there are clearly problems with their system. It’s all about accountability for me. If he would at least admit that things went horribly wrong that night, maybe I could try and deal with having him as Sheriff. Well, living in Charlotte County, I guess I’ll have to deal with it….but I won’t be happy about it. Maybe he’ll change. Some people do.
And I’ll be right there with you, Peggy, fighting for change in our system.
Peggy, I said hopefully “I” will be moving to sarasota county in the future. {we will most likely be moving out of our house}
I certainly wouldn’t wish cameron on sarasota county or anywhere else. :(
oh, sorry! Jeanine! We’re going to be moving out of our house probably too. We’re very seriously considering Sarastoa County. Sorry, I misread what you said! I get so fired up over this, I’d best settle down!
THE GOOD NEWS IS, WE WON’T HAVE TO SEE HIS SIGNS ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!
Over $100K in signs! Wow. In this housing market, you could buy a good house for that.
I know….. what a ridiculous waste of money for signs. Imagine what $100 k could do for the 911 center!
it is totally disgusting, and is there a limit as to how long they can have these signs up? cause I would have so much fun running them down. haha
