No news is bad news~Coralrose

Date January 5, 2007

coralrosefullwood.jpgOk, sorry it took me so long, it was just one of those days at work, and I ended up running an errand at lunchtime rather than posting. Sadly, I have nothing great to post. Actually, it’s pretty upsetting.

I admit it…as much as I hate to think that a dad could murder their own child, I really expected to hear that Dale Fullwood had killed his daughter. And I hate to admit this even more, but that’s what I wanted to hear. If it was her dad, than probably the rest of our kids would be relatively safe. That would mean that there was no fruitloop running around.

First of all, a bit of background for those of you who don’t live around here, or missed my original posts on this story. Coralrose Fullwood is a beautiful 6 year old child who was discovered missing from her home back in September. About 5 hours later, they found her body, about 2 blocks from her home, at a construction site. This happened fairly close to where we lived at the time, and much closer to where we now live. It freaked me out, after all, I’m the mother of two pretty girls. When this first happened, it was reported that the initial autopsy revealed no obvious signs of sexual assault. That made me feel better. Within a couple of days, the kids were removed from their home, as it was revealed that apparently it was a disaster area…you can read the news reports that I originally linked to if you want to hear more details. Of course, suddenly, everyone was sure that the parents must be involved. This really bothered me…after all, not everyone is a perfect housekeeper, and even if you’re a downright slob, that doesn’t make you a murderer.

But then, a couple of weeks later, it got even weirder. Dale Fullwood, Coralrose’s dad, was arrested for having child pornography on his computer. Still, this doesn’t make you a murderer, but it makes it easier to think that perhaps he had something to do with it. To be honest, I think it pretty much convinced all of us parents that he must have done it, and that the rest of us could relax and let our guard down.

Now, fast forward to today’s press conference. I’ll link to it at the end of my post, and if you have the time, please go watch it, I want to know if you get the same feeling from it that I do…that the North Port police don’t have a CLUE who did this. Here’s some of the news story for those of you who don’t have the patience to go watch the news conference.

Police: Coralrose sexually assaulted

NORTH PORT: A six-year-old North Port girl was sexually assaulted before she was murdered, according to police. That fact was among several new pieces of information North Port Police Chief Terry Lewis revealed at a news conference Friday morning.

In the news conference, Lewis first revealed that Coralrose was sexually assaulted.

“A sexual battery did, in fact, occur,” said Lewis.

Chief Lewis also revealed several other key facts in the case:

* Physical evidence at the scene indicates more than one person was involved
* DNA of non family member involved in the crime has been identified
* No one has been ruled out as a suspect
* No suspects have been identified

Lewis also said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement developed a profile of the suspect. The suspect is a white male who was familiar or acquainted with Coralrose. The suspect is someone with no social or relationship skills, but is likely married or living or lived with a girlfriend. He also said they believe the suspect saw Coralrose either at her home, or near it.

Just how the hell could it have taken THREE MONTHS to figure out that Coralrose was sexually assaulted?! And how could the police have allowed all of us to believe that our children were safe? And why don’t they seem to have any idea what happened to this little girl?

There’s a forum out there run by one of the local newspapers. I disagree with alot of what is said there…to me it seems to mostly be a vendetta against the family (they have dad running a kiddy porn ring and accidently killing his daughter….I’m sorry, but that’s a bit extreme to me!). But there are a couple of posts on there that I agree with completely.

Why in the world did the NP police not warn the community that it WAS someone in the community that attacked this little girl! It can’t possibly take this long to know the DNA. If I am wrong about that please someone exlplain it to me.

If I lived in North Port I would be furious! I wouldn’t feel safe, I would not have much faith in the authorities to protect me.

If I lived in North Port I would want to know how long they have know that is was a non family member. I mean, this person is walking around the community. I would be furious and I would demand answers.

My thoughts exactly.

The news conference can be seen here. Just click on the “click for video” graphic. Sorry, but I haven’t learned the fine art of video capture. Again, let me know what you think. I’d love to know.

Thought I’d take a look around and see what other people are talking about ……..

Here is what I do not get at all.

    1. Why the heck did it take so long to know if she had been sexually assaulted? I think they knew quickly and did not want to tell the truth hoping they would arrest the guilty people involved first. Still I do not like being lied to by anyone. And if more people knew the truth then more people would be outraged and maybe have some clues to offer.

    2. What the heck is this about….”DNA of non family member involved in the crime has been identified” They know for sure that someone was there, they have the DNA of one person that was at the crime and they do not do something about it. Who is this person, did they arrest this person, why not
give more information like name etc. and tell us that person has been arrested for Pete’s sake.

    3. The Dad having child porn on his computer might be a clue to someone the non-family member that did this horrible thing to Coralrose. Like follow the money kind of thing….follow the porn and emails.

    4. Stop the PC with these crimes and let the public have all the facts. Stop protecting the guilty for a change and go all out to let the world know this kind of thing….. these vile people that do these things will be hunted down and killed or arrested and put to death.

Damn – what gross negligence. As soon as they knew she was sexually assaulted – so should have the community. Lock the doors and keep shouting from your computer. Justice for Coralrose and safety for all the children in the area are the most important things!

If your local pd labs are anything like other agencies, 3 months is not long at all for DNA comparison. They had to not only recover the dna of the vic, but also dna from all family members and process all of that.

Secondly, law enforcement is going to keep a lot of details ‘quiet’, not from malfeasance but from wanting to be able to weed out the whackos who like to “confess” to crimes. Remember the recent Jo Benet Ramsey debacle?

If they did a computer forensic and charged Dad within a couple of weeks, then it sounds like the pd has been on top of the case.

Sometimes I think shows like CSI do a disservice to law enforcement, because it creates unreal expectations in the public.

My 2cents worth? Especially since it seems to point to “multiple” perps? (and this is just gut speculation based on my years at the DA’s office)… the perps will turn out to be a couple of juvies..local kids, jr or sr high school and it was a crime of opportunity. Dad’s kiddie porn will have nothing to do with it. I’ll add pretty even money that the Coralrose even knew her attackers.

I live in the midwest, and have not heard of this before now. I have to admit this is disturbing from many angles.
Whether it be from the police negligence or the crime itself, I am truly sick to my stomach.

I also live in North Port with my 3 grand kids up the street. I feel like the city was lead to beleive that things were safer for our kids than they realy were. They didnt have to lie to us and say she wasnt sexualy abused. I think that helped us put down our gaurd a little more than we would have had we not been told that.

First off, I don’t see why everyone is against the NP Police. There trying to HELP. Unlike the family…who didn’t even seem to care their OWN child was taken. This whole story is sooo fishy. I live a block away from their old house, and they way the police and papers described the house was to a T. DISCUSTING. And that Fathers story doesn’t match up one bit. This family makes me sick, and also all you ignorant people against the police. They knew she was sexually assaulted from the get go. They just didn’t need to go telling all of you. I don’t even know why im wasting by breath talking to any of you. I hope that when you are introuble…you don’t bother calling the police. Maybe call Dale fulwood..that sicko maybe can help you.

I think everyone seems to be against the police because nothing has been “solved” and justice has not been “Served” yet. Anger stems from this beautiful little girl who lost her life so tragically. Ignorant people against the police? that isn’t very nice to say about people you dont even know.
….and yes, I do hope that when and if in trouble the police will help- your comment “dont bother calling the police”…..- sometimes people do call the police and still get no help. Denise Amber Lee for example.
