Michelle Gardner-Quinn~what really happened?
October 17, 2006
I got an interesting email yesterday from an old friend…strangely enough, she found me via a search engine search for Brian Rooney, the man suspected of abducting and murdering Michelle Gardner-Quinn. I’m quoting her here, with her permission. Her name is Trish, and we’ll just leave it at that. We used to run around downtown Burlington together, many moons ago, when we were teenagers. I’m quite sure that we were out walking the same streets, at the same time of night, as Michelle.
Hey girl long time no talk to! I just ran across your blog and I came across the story of the missing UVM girl. I am sickened to tell you that I personally know the guy that they suspect in murdering her AND I am very good friends with the family of the girl he is alleged to have raped. You never REALLY know some one I guess. I knew him as a dirt bag and a thief and I am a little shocked that he could actually kill a person, as he doesn’t seem the type at all. He was very close friends with my ex boyfriend and they got into a bit of trouble together, If I find out any inside info I will let you know.I do know about the rape he is being charged with that the girl was 15 and he put a rag over her face with ether or some chemical like that on it and raped her…..according to her family. The chemical he used burned her face at the time….superficial burns…..nothing permament. The girl was actually his step daughter from what I understand. THAT I BELIEVE…..but I will be some shocked to think he could actually take a life. I’m certainly not saying it isn’t possible…I’m just saying that I will be shocked!I agree with you…..Burlington isn’t like it was when we were there!!!!!
Love ya lots!Trish
It got me thinking….do they have the right guy? I sure hope so, cuz if not, then there is still a freak running around the streets of Burlington…the same streets my baby sister is out and about on.
What do YOU think? What happened? Do they have the right guy? And if not, what do you think happened? Are they pulling charges out of the air to hold this guy? Hit the comment button and let me know what you think.
My other question comes from a comment that my sister Jessica left. I’m gonna go ahead and share it without emailing her first (I’m at lunch and have to hurry up with this post), since she left it in the public comments, I’m gonna figure she won’t mind.
it’s been weird here. friday i left work early and watched the press conference live from city hall saying they found michelle in richmond. it was pretty somber here friday nite. i still need to find where to buy pepper spray seeing the army/navy store is out…wonder why? over the weekend i definitely didn’t walk in the dark alone like i typically do. they don’t neccessarily have michelle’s killer which makes most of my friend’s and i a little on edge.
but i have taken this whole situation very seriously, and have taken yours and ma’s advice about being particularly careful.Jessica
My question is for those of you in the Burlington area…I know I have some readers there, and I know I’m getting hit with those of you from search engines, as well. Are you finding yourself being more careful now? I know Burlington is a huge party city…hell, I used to run the streets there myself, and I don’t remember EVER being careful. Is this changing things for y’all? Or are you finding yourself feeling confidant that they have the guy and there’s no need to take precautions? How has this whole thing affected you?
And does anyone know where Jess can get her hands on some mace?

My name is Tammy. I'm a 45 year-old married mother of three teenagers, living in my version of paradise, also known as SW Florida. I can tend to be opinionated. My political views lean to the right. I'll think of more later, lol.

Great post. Burlington is such a beautiful town – sorry to see that it is having to go through this. Makes small town America seem corrupted.

Your friend Trish thinks that the suspect, Brian Rooney is capable of rape but not murder. Maybe her death was not premeditated. Perhaps he killed her accidentally while raping her and then dumped her body because he got scared.

No where is as safe as it use to be. My little town here in Colorado has had stuff happen. We were never careful as teens; times change. Very sad. I do hope it’s this guy, one less freak on the streets.

I was going to say the same as Stacy… unfortunately nowhere is safe anymore :(

still no luck with the mace. but luckily, i have great friends who don’t let me walk alone, even at dusk. lol. it’s just striking how many women in burlington i’ve heard voice that “wow, that could of been me that night.” myself included. let’s just hope they have the right guy.

Cotillion Colloquy…
I was reading blogs and Cotillion emails last night, simultaneously, and thought it was a perfectly good time to blog a little about the Cotillion Colloquy. ThatÂ’s how I think of it, colloquy. I mean, there is A LOT of chatter over there….
