Easter Rice Krispie Treats: Fun Kitchen Baking Project

Hey all my lovely friends! Easter is fast approaching! I want to share with you a simple home baking treat that I did as a little kid and I am introducing to my daughter for the first time this year- Easter Rice Krispie Treats! For some Easter baking with my little one I wanted a project that was easy, quick, and different from the normal baking ( cookies/cakes etc),  but still loads of fun! I remember making these when I was little and I thought they would be a perfect at home treat while in quarantine. These are easy to do when you don’t have much time on a week day. We had these made and decorated under an hour on a Thursday evening.

This is how we made homemade Rice Krispie treats- made with Easter cookie cutters!

Ingredients:

If you have never made them before- they are super simple and you only need 3 ingredients to make them and then any icing or sprinkles you want to add to decorate them.

Bag of Marshmallows ( 12oz bag), box of Rice Krispies, and butter!

I also used wax paper and a rolling pin, and 4 Easter cookie cutters ( I already had these in my kitchen)

If you don’t have any Easter or Spring cookie cutters you can get some here for about $6:

How to Make Rice Krispie Treats:

Heat three tablespoons of butter in a large pan

Add in the bag of marshmallows. ( 12 oz bag)

Mix together until melted ( you don’t want to burn the marshmallows)

Here is my daughter checking on the Rice Krispies and making sure they are stirred well!

Railyn making sure the marchmallow mixture does not burn on the stove. She is ensuring continuous stirring is taking place. :)

Once completely melted add in your box of Rice Krispy Cereal. I opted for the Easter/ Spring colored box.

Next, stir in the Rice Krispies well until the marshmallows are will mixed with the Rice Krispies.

Remove Rice Krispies from pot/ pan and place on some wax paper to cool.  As shown here:

Rice Krispie treats laid out on wax paper ready to be flattened and cut.

Roll them out with a rolling pin about ½ to an inch thick (depending on how large you want your treats). Use your cookie cutters and cut away.

Here is what ours looked like before we decorated them with purple icing and sprinkles:

Cut Rice Krispie treats in the shapes of hearts, rabbits, ducks and a cross for spring and Easter.

Decorating:

So, Once you have all your Rice Krispies cut, heat up your icing and dip your treats in the icing to cover the Rice Krispie treat as much or as little as you would like. Then decorate with sprinkles!

This is how my daughter and I did it:

Finished Rice Krispie treats with purple icing and colorful sprinkles.

Railyn’s Critique of Easter Rice Krispie Treats

This is how my 6 year old daughter ( Railyn) critiqued this project:

Question: How would you rate this Rice Krispy treat project from 1 to 10. !0 being the best and 1 being the worst?

Railyn’s response: I would give it a 10!

Question: What do you think we could do differently next time?

Railyn’s response: “Use different color icing, maybe blue, red and white. We could also add chocolate candies into the Rice Krispy mix. ” ( I was so impressed with her response- we might have to do this in the future! My little mini me is using her creative side!) 🙂

Question: Would you want to do this project again in the future:

Railyn’s response: Yes!

If you enjoyed this project I have a few other projects that I think you might like. Please check these out:
